Can Coatings are coatings for containers (can varnishes)
Can Coatings are coatings protecting metal cans against corrosion. These are can varnishes made of prepared vegetable oils (dehydrated castor oil, compacted tung oil, oxidized flaxseed oil). Synthetic resins can also be used to obtain Can Coatings: a mixture of phenol-formaldehyde and epoxy, butylphenol and xylene-formaldehyde resin. Organic solvents such as white spirit, turpentine, butyl acetate, ethyl cellosolve and their mixtures are used. Safety for human health should be considered the most important characteristic of coatings. The coatings being used must withstand high (at least 120 °C) temperature during sterilization of canned food, and exhibit no chemical activity when exposed to acid and protein medium. Absence of components affecting the smell and color of canned food is also important. Based on these requirements, it is preferable to use coatings based on synthetic resins. Protein-resistant can enamels are produced by dispersing zinc oxide and aluminum powder.

Coil Coatings are polymer coatings applied to metal surfaces. This process is performed by roller machines on automated flow lines. Preliminary special processing of rolled metal sheets is performed. Polyester resins are considered the best material for the finishing coating, as they have good performance in combination with reasonable prices. These qualities are appreciated by the consumer, and therefore they are actively used in Russia and in the CIS countries.
